New Tesco Swords store opens creating 85 new jobs
Tesco Ireland has today announced the creation of 85 new jobs at the opening of its 149th Tesco store at the Airside Retail Park in Swords, Co. Dublin. The store will employ 85 people in total, with 70 colleagues coming from the local area including 42 from Swords. Tesco now employs over 13,000 people in Ireland.
Speaking at the official store opening Tesco Ireland CEO, Andrew Yaxley said: “We are delighted to be able to create 85 new permanent positions at our new Tesco store in Swords which is a great boost for the local community. The full Tesco Swords team is committed to providing customers with the best shopping experience with an extensive range of quality fresh Irish foods, many of which have been sourced locally from North County Dublin. The store layout is designed to provide an enhanced more engaging shopping experience which we hope our customers enjoy.”
Tesco Swords will be managed by a highly experienced senior management team including Store Manager Gary Redmond who previously managed the Tesco store in Rush, Co. Dublin, and Personnel Manager Debbie Myler from Swords who joins the team from Tesco Dundalk Extra.
Gary Redmond Tesco Swords store manager today said: “Our new store offers the best of fresh and local food to customers, with the community at the heart of the shopping experience. We offer an extensive range of fresh food including a bakery, butcher, fish counter as well as a salad and sandwich bar to help busy shoppers who need food on-the-go. The store will also support the Swords community specifically through our Tesco Community Fund initiative and we will channel our surplus food to the local Swords initiatives that need it most through our partnership with FoodCloud. We will also support Tesco’s Charity Partner Temple Street through in-store fundraising.
The Swords store layout showcases Tesco’s continued focus on fresh, local and seasonal produce. Diverse offerings from local producers will be a key feature of the new store and will include hundreds of local products. Local suppliers to the store will include: Dessie Farrell Parsnip supplier from Rush, Co. Dublin; Brian Weldon, cauliflower supplier from Lusk Co. Dublin, the Foley Brothers and Alan Kelly, tomato suppliers from Rush Co. Dublin, David Rogers, onion supplier from Ballyboughal, Co. Dublin and more.
Located at Airside Retail Park, the new store measures 22,358 sq.ft and includes four ancillary units to include a café, pharmacy, medical centre and take away. It has 229 free car parking spaces including a dedicated electric car charging point and a Click & Collect service.
