TESCO LAUNCHES ‘WICKED KITCHEN’: A NEW PLANT-BASED BRAND THAT UNLEASHES THE SURPRISING FLAVOUR OF VEGETABLES
Tesco has partnered with pioneering chef, Derek Sarno, to create ‘Wicked Kitchen’ – a new range of irresistible meals that celebrate everything that’s ‘wicked’ and tasty about plants. Prepared exclusively for Tesco, the new range has launched in approximately 75 stores across Ireland.
As former senior global chef at Whole Foods Market, Derek has created dishes that make it easier than ever for people to eat more plants. From smokin’ pasta and amazeballz to wicked-meaty mushrooms, the vibrant dishes have all the zing, punch and crunch helping you on your way to eat more veg. The exclusive range includes seven ready meals perfect for lunch or dinner, priced at €5.00 per unit.
Self-confessed plant-pusher and pioneering chef, Derek Sarno, “For too long, vegans have been overlooked, with many offerings that are available seemingly created to appease rather than truly please. Wicked Kitchen plans to change all that. My aim from the start was to create recipes that were 80% healthy and 20% wicked - recipes that would delight vegans and give them the options they craved, whilst also attracting meat-eaters and encouraging them to try plant-based foods. The flavours are well-balanced and layered with bold, intense, delicious flavours so that Wicked Kitchen can help even more people transition to a plant-based diet, as well as satiating the needs and wants of vegans.”
With more and more of the population leaning towards “flexitarian”, the number of those cutting back on animal products and following a plant-based diet is set to increase. Recognising this growing trend, Tesco and Derek want to bring the plant-based market from niche to mainstream with delicious ready meals that leads with flavour, crushes hunger and tantalizes the taste buds.
