Tesco opens 150th store in Ireland creating 24 new jobs

Tesco Ireland has announced the creation of 24 new jobs at the opening of its 150th Tesco store at The Green, Malahide. The store officially opened at the weekend in a snowy Malahide with some locals arriving by sleigh.  The store will employ 24 people in total, with 20 colleagues from the local area coming off the live register. Tesco now employs over 13,000 people in Ireland.

Speaking at the official store opening Tesco Ireland CEO, Andrew Yaxley said: “We are delighted to be able to create 24 new permanent positions at our new Tesco store in Malahide which is a great boost for the local community. The Malahide Express team will offer customers an extensive range of the best Irish produce, most of which has been sourced locally in North County Dublin. The store layout is designed to provide an enhanced more engaging shopping experience which we hope our customers enjoy.”

Tesco Express Malahide will be managed by a highly experienced Store Manager Pamela Maxwell who previously managed the Tesco Express Store on Pearse Street.

Pamela Maxwell, Tesco Malahide store manager today said: “Our new store offers the best of fresh and local food to customers, with the community at the heart of the shopping experience.  We offer an extensive range of fresh food including a bakery and salad bar to help busy shoppers who need food on-the-go.  The store will also support the Malahide community specifically through our Tesco Community Fund initiative and we will channel our surplus food to the local Malahide initiatives that need it most through our partnership with FoodCloud. We will also support Tesco’s Charity Partner Temple Street through in-store fundraising.”

The Malahide store layout showcases Tesco’s continued focus on fresh, local and seasonal produce. Diverse offerings from local producers will be a key feature of the new store and will include hundreds of local products.  Located at The Green Retail space, the new store measures 5243 sq.ft.
