Tesco’s Clubcard marks its 21st birthday with the most rewarding day ever this Saturday!

Clubcard has almost 1 million members around Ireland

 This Saturday, 7th July Tesco will launch its first ever #ClubcardDay to celebrate the 21st year of its Clubcard in Ireland. It’s a day of deals, prizes and fun in Tesco stores around the country to reward Tesco shoppers and to welcome new ones also!

Thinking back, 1997 was the year that Dolly the Sheep became the first cloned animal in the world, Katrina & the Waves won the Eurovision Song Content with “Love Shine a Light”, and the Spice Girls were at the peak of their popularity. It was also the year that Tesco launched its credit-card sized “Clubcard”. The loyalty card allowed shoppers to collect points each time they shopped and scanned their Clubcard. The premise remains the same today, with customers continuing to reap the benefits of swiping their card each time they shop and in turn receiving rewards at key points throughout the year in their statement.

Fast forward twenty one short years, Clubcard has almost 1 million members in Ireland. To mark this special birthday, this Saturday, shoppers can avail of deals, prizes and fun as part of Ireland’s most rewarding day ever, #ClubcardDay, in stores all around Ireland.

Since 2007, customers have also been able to access big savings with Clubcard Boost partners such as Bord Gáis Energy, Dublin Zoo, Milano, Tesco Mobile, Odeon, Stena Line and Irish Ferries. Using Clubcard Boost Irish customers have saved over €6m on their energy bills since 2012, and have enjoyed hundreds of thousands of restaurant meals, family days out and hotel breaks.

Over the last 21 years, Clubcard has been reinvented as a key fob for easy use on the go. Other digital advances like accessing My Clubcard Account online and the integration of Clubcard into the Tesco app, which now allows customers to scan their phone in store and have full visibility of unredeemed vouchers on their account at their fingertips.
