Hot Cross Buns the currant favourite with Tesco to sell over 1.1 Million
4-Pack of Tesco hot cross buns reduced to €0.49 for Easter Week
Shoppers are on track to devour over 1.1 million hot cross buns from Tesco stores across Ireland by Easter weekend. Traditionally baked for Lent and enjoyed on Good Friday, these sweet buns are marked with central white crosses. Enjoyed cold or toasted and buttered, Tesco stocks a range of hot cross buns from Tesco finest* perfectly rounded hot cross buns packed with plump fruit and spices and Tesco hot cross buns four pack which is reduced to €0.49 for the next week.
If lined up in a row from Tesco head office in Dun Laoghaire in Dublin, these 1.1 million fresh hot cross buns could cover a distance of over 66km and reach Kildare Village. Alternatively if stacked on top of each other, they could pass through the stratosphere of the Earth’s atmosphere just passing the midway point from ground level to space.
Commenting about the results, Tesco Ireland bakery buyer Lisa Rowan said “Hot cross buns are proving as popular as ever this year and we’re on track to sell over 1.1 million of these sweet treats in the run up to Easter this year. To make this quantity at home, bakers would need over 41,000kg of flour and over 19,000kg of juicy sultanas and mixed peel.”
Additional seasonal bakery treats in Tesco stores for Easter include; Easter chocolate log at €2.79, a seasonal Easter cupcake platter at €9.99 with 12 cupcakes, a Strawberries and cream cupcake 2-pack at €2.35, 6” Chocolate nest cake with hidden mini eggs at €9.99 and single chocolate nest egg cupcakes at €1.50.
