Colleagues from Tesco Ireland’s Cork and Munster stores came together in celebration of what Pride means to them at the 2019 Cork LGBT+ Pride Festival Parade. Tesco Ireland was ‘Bursting with Pride’ to be on board as lead sponsor of this year’s festival, a partnership that demonstrates Tesco’s ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Cork LGBT+ Pride Festival 2019 is an 8-day national event that runs from 27th July – 4th August with over 30 events across the city and county, bringing thousands to the streets of Cork in celebration of diversity and inclusion. The pinnacle of the festival, the Cork Pride Parade will culminate in Cork city on Sunday, 4th August 2019, where Tesco colleagues from across Cork and Munster stores will come together in celebration of what Pride means to them. A themed Tesco delivery truck will take pride of place in the parade also, carrying sweets, rainbow treats and more, as take-home tokens for spectators on the day.

Along with the Pride Parade, the festival schedule includes a variety of engaging events for all audiences including Pride by the Sea, a unique Rainbow Run, wellbeing focussed evenings, the GAZE Film Festival cinema night, a Family Fun day and more.

Speaking on the partnership, Clive Davis, Chairperson of Cork LGBT+ Pride Festival said; The Cork Pride story began many years ago, with a few brave individuals marching down Patrick Street; today, Cork Pride is an 8-day national festival which brings thousands of people onto the streets of Cork to celebrate with us. It takes an army of over 100 people to deliver Cork Pride annually, and along with that hardworking team, it takes partners, supporters, and sponsors. Thanks to support from sponsors including Tesco Ireland, we can ensure that this year’s Cork Pride is bigger and better than ever and that Cork Pride events always remain free of charge to attend.

Ruairi Twomey, Marketing Director and executive sponsor of Tesco’s Diversity & Inclusion Council commented: At Tesco, everyone is welcome, and we are proud to empower our colleagues to be who they are when at work. This celebration of diversity and inclusion every single day is a big part of our identity as a company and Pride gives real positive visibility for this mission - so we at Tesco are ‘bursting with pride’ to show our support. Pride has become hugely important to our colleagues and communities, and we are proud to support Cork LGBT+ Festival 2019 for the first time.
